One step in the right direction...for now.

As of a couple days ago, I've got a new host. I actually had one before that but was extremely disappointed with them in the first few days and immediately dropped them. Hopefully all the issues I've had over the past few months with uploading and latency have been solved. If not, I sure will not hesitate to drop this one also and keep looking.

All in all, the server should be faster and hopefully a bit more reliable. I absolutely loved my previous host, but for the past few months, I've had some serious connectivity issues between me and the server so I was only able to upload at about one tenth of my capped limit at home — OUCH! — and at least for me, even downloading had some reliability problems.

As for the site, this is still (unfortunately) faked. I almost redid /phg in the midst of finding a new host, but I was talked into leaving it the way it was and creating a new, more organized version later. And on the minus side of things, I lost all of the original versions of my photos about a month ago in an unfortunate mishap. Luckily, most of the full sized jpegs were stored in /phg so I do have those, but no more RAWs of most of them. As a result, I've been a bit more active with photogrpahy so I can rebuild. I've also acquired some new lenses that I need to play with, so hopefully /phg will be frequently updated and a new gallery on the way.

For the first time in what has probably been over two years, I have done something with this domain - outside /phg that is. And that's not all...I actually have more planned. What all am I pondering? Well, in no particular order:

  • Full featured blog (yes, this is fake)
  • Completely redo /phg - maybe even my own gallery app
  • Custom script for /pug - no more default directory listing
  • Find a new font...this doesn't mesh at all

Of course, planned is the key word. With my history of just dropping personal projects for no real rhyme or reason, I don't think I'll be promising anything. But, with that being said, I've already put in a full day's worth of work on a weekend, including spending a couple hours with ActionScript 3.0 (haven't touched it since 2.0) so I could get a working mailer. So maybe something is different this time?
